Pressured to run for the government of Minas Gerais and guarantee a platform for President Lula in the state, Marília Campos (PT) defended the construction of a broad front and participated in one with pre-candidates for the government Gabriel Azevedo (MDB) and Jarbas Soares Júnior (PSB).

One of the main PT members in Minas Gerais, Marília was mayor of Contagem, the third largest city in Minas Gerais, between 2021 and 2026. She resigned from the position in April to run for the Senate.
This Saturday (27), she, Gabriel Azevedo and Jarbas Soares Júnior participated in the Northern Minas Gerais Regional Leadership Meeting in Montes Claros, a city in the north of Minas. The three posed for a photo together.
Marília classified the act as a first concrete initiative to build a broad front in the state, highlighting that the three are from different parties, but “speak the language of dialogue, union and depolarization.”
“This meeting shows that there is space to bring together different political forces around a common project of governance, development and strengthening of democracy, in line with President Lula’s government”, stated Marília.
In the same post, Gabriel Azevedo praised the PT member, defended her election to the Federal Senate and said he was working for a broad front.
“Let’s, I insist, stop encouraging fights and hatred. Let’s, as they say, stir the candy. Let’s look for what unites us, and not what separates us. It’s for Minas Gerais”, he said.
Councilor in Belo Horizonte for two terms, Azevedo was a candidate for mayor of Belo Horizonte in 2024 and finished the election in fourth place
He emerged into politics when he was part of a group of young people called “Turma do Chapéu”, created by the militants to act in the campaign of ally Marcio Lacerda, from PSB, in 2012. The group’s trademark was the use of panama hats by its members.
The pessebista Jarbas Soares Júnior was Attorney General of the Justice of Minas Gerais and was launched into the government after the former president of the Senate Rodrigo Pacheco (PSB). He announced that he will leave public life after the end of his term in January.
Soares Júnior also commented on Marília Campos’ post and signaled his support for the PT member in the Senate race: “You will have my vote and all my support, regardless of what happens.”
This Thursday (25), Marília classified her party’s decision to launch its own candidacy for the Government of Minas Gerais as a success.
In a note, she reaffirmed her pre-candidacy for the Senate and argued that the PT owes a broad alliance, citing parties such as PC do B, PV, PSB, MDB, Rede, PSOL and PDT.
The pressure for Marília to run for Government of Minas Gerais increased after a meeting with Lula on Wednesday (24), in which the president indicated to PT members in the state his preference for the party’s own candidacy and mentioned the name of the former mayor.
