The EU is launching a record military loan for Ukraine, Kyiv has already accepted the first 3.9 billion euros. The funds are intended to strengthen the defense and stability of the state.
Ukraine received on Tuesday the first tranche of military aid in the amount of 3.9 billion euros from the European Union loan with a total value of 90 billion euros. TASR informs about it based on the report of the DPA agency.
The funds are intended for the purchase of drones, but their use will also be extended to munitions, missiles and air defense systems, the European Commission (EC) said. The EU loan was set up earlier this year and includes 60 billion euros in military aid and 30 billion euros in budget support for 2026 and 2027.
The funds will help Ukraine continue to defend itself against Russian invasion and prevent the country from going bankrupt. “These investments will help Ukraine protect its citizens and sovereignty and strengthen the security of Europe,” EC President Ursula von der Leyen said in a statement. In 2026, 28.3 billion will be paid out of the 60 billion defense package.
“Europe will stand firmly by Ukraine’s side for as long as it takes to achieve a just and lasting peace,” added the head of the EC. Last week, Ukraine also received the first funds for budget support worth 3.2 billion euros.
