Mayor of Serede Ondrej Kurbel declared a state of emergency due to the extent of damage after Wednesday’s intense storm in the city. The municipality continues to determine the extent of the damage and checks reports from residents. This was confirmed for TASR by Zuzana Slahučková from the Sered town hall.
“We are not underestimating the situation. Together with the rescue services, we are checking the most affected locations and continuously evaluating the extent of the damage and other necessary measures,” said Kurbel. In addition to rescue services and city employees, members of the city police are also monitoring the situation.
At the same time, the city is asking residents for their cooperation. “If they have observed damaged or dangerously leaning trees, damage to buildings or other damage caused by today’s storm, they can send their reports along with photos to the e-mail address media@sered.sk. added Slahučková, with the fact that the municipality will continuously inform about the further development of the situation.
After days of extreme heat, storms occurred in several places in Slovakia on Wednesday. Sometimes also intense, accompanied by heavy rain, wind and hail. Flooded streets, broken branches and uprooted trees are reported. The weather also complicates transportation. People are reporting power outages in several locations. A state of emergency was declared in Prešov. The consequences of strong storms are also removed in Žilina, Ružomberok and other villages and towns.
