After the game, which ended 3-0 for the French, coach Didier Deschamps praised the South Americans’ performance and said he had watched the confrontation that ended with Germany’s elimination on penalties this Monday (29).
“Germany is a beautiful team. [O Paraguai] It’s an opponent that has good players. Luckily, they didn’t advance to the round of 16,” he said. “We have days to savor [a vitória sobre a Suécia] and then we’ll think about the next game.”
Absent in the duel against Norway, still in the group stage, the coach returned to command the team after going to France for his mother’s wake. With Mbappé’s first goal, Deschamps received a hug from the captain.
At the end of the match, when he replaced the player, the coach bowed to Mbappé, who scored two of the team’s three goals.
“We are all together,” said the attacker about the gesture. “These are more important things than football. He has been going through everything with the affection of our team and it’s good for us to have him with us too.”
Regarding the next clash, the top scorer said he expected a difficult match. “A new competition started today. We played well, we can still improve.”
