Brazil is one of Kaspersky’s largest bets in the world. In an exclusive interview with Infomoney During the 15th edition of Cyber Security Week, event promoted by the company for the first time in the country, Claudio Martinelli, Kaspersky’s director general for the Americas, detailed the company’s plans for the Brazilian market.
Kaspersky has a multi -year four -year plan for Brazil, which includes hiring over 40 professionals this year. “Our team in Latin America started the year with 150 employees and we will end with over 200, most of them in Brazil, which is the matrix of America for Kaspersky,” explains Martinelli.
The investment is significant and involves the expansion of marketing, business, services and support to meet the expected growth. “We foresee more than double our operations in Brazil over the next four years, with the local team more than doubling in size.”

Growth Strategy
Of Russian origin and founded in 1997 by Eugene Kaspersk today, the company has over 5,000 employees spread in 30 offices worldwide, serving customers in 200 countries. In Brazil, the operation is lean, but accounts for about 40% of Kaspersky’s revenues in Latin America – and Martinelli projects the current revenues in four years. The strategy for this is the increase in the average ticket per customer, thanks to the offer of a broader portfolio of solutions.
“We have customers ranging from small businesses, with five computers, to large corporations with 50,000 machines. Digital security is not expensive and fits in the pocket of any company, provided that the solution is adequate,” he says.

Kaspersky customers in Brazil include the Armed Forces, with over 300,000 protected users (active licenses). In total, the company serves more than 12,000 customers in the country, with more than 2 million active users, and over 6.5 million in Latin America.
Brazil: a strategic and promising market
According to Martinelli, Brazil brings together ideal characteristics for Kaspersky’s success in the area of digital security. “It is a very connected country that adopts early technologies, has a large population and a very robust digital economy. All these components make Brazil a market with huge potential,” he says.
On the other hand, the executive points out that the country still faces important challenges, such as the lack of digital security and the scarcity of qualified professionals. “We understand that we can contribute not only to the security of companies, but also to talent formation, process automation and threat detection, which makes perfect sense to us from a business point of view.”

Evolution of digital security solutions
The executive also commented that advances in digital threats, such as attacks based on artificial intelligence and phishing, reduced antimalware participation, technical name of antivirus, in the strategy of its customers and, consequently, its revenue. “Antiviruses today represent no more than 30% of sales.”
According to Martinelli, this product is part of the fundamental layer of protection. “It automates and eliminates many handicrafts, representing about 20 to 25% of the ideal protection layer for a company,” but it is not enough to combat more sophisticated threats or those based on social engineering and human errors.
“The basic pattern today is EDR (Endpoint Detection and Response), which is the evolution of antimalware, offering automated answers without user intervention.”

The company focuses on advanced solutions such as threat intelligence, industrial protection and threat management, with tools such as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), which analyzes and correlates suspicious events to identify real -time attack attempts. “We have already evolved to the next level and did a job with our customers to choose more complete and updated solutions according to their needs,” he concludes.
The reporter traveled to Manaus at the invitation of Kaspersky.
