A Belgian politician is founding a party inspired by Donald Trump. Critics warn against the extreme right

The new right-wing populist TRUMP party was founded in Belgium. Founder Salvatore Nicotra describes it as a follower of the extreme right with planned ambitions at the federal level.

A new francophone right-wing populist party TRUMP (Tous Réunis pour l’Union des Mouvements Populistes – All united for the Union of Populist Movements) was formed in Belgium last week, the local news portal Bruzz wrote on Monday. TASR informs about it according to the Politico magazine report.

  • The new right-wing populist TRUMP party was founded in Belgium.
  • The name of the party refers to US President Donald Trump.
  • The party has extreme right-wing elements and a social focus.

It is no coincidence that the party’s acronym bears the surname of US President Donald Trump. According to its founder Salvatore Nicotra, former chairman of the Belgian National Front (NF) party, the current American president is “the ultimate symbol of populism.” “He immediately embodies what we stand for,” said Nicotra.

Extreme right-wing elements

According to Politico magazine, the TRUMP party has far-right elements and is a follower of the far-right Walloon parties NF and Our Home (Chez Nous). Compared to the largest Belgian right-wing party, the Flemish Interest (Vlaams Belang – VB), according to Nicotra, TRUMP does not advocate separatism, and plans to apply for electoral votes at the federal level and in the European Parliament elections in 2029.

“We are a right-wing populist party with a social focus,” explained Nicotra. The new chairman of the TRUMP party served in the council of the Brussels district of Saint-Gilles from 1994 to 2000. He did not rule out that his new party will also compete for votes in the elections in the Belgian capital or in municipal elections.

Controversial members

The co-founders of the party are former NF members. Among them is the former member of the VB party, Emanuele Licari, whom the party threw out of its structures for openly glorifying fascism.
