There was a fire and an explosion in two Berlin hospitals

Police are investigating an overnight fire at Charité Hospital and an explosion at Neukölln Hospital in Berlin. The incidents caused damage to buildings, but there were no injuries.

German police are investigating a fire and explosion at two major hospitals in Berlin overnight on Tuesday. No one was injured in the incidents, and according to local authorities, these are apparently politically motivated acts, reports TASR on the basis of the DPA agency.

A police spokeswoman confirmed on Tuesday that a fire broke out in one of the buildings of the Charité University Hospital in Berlin during the night.

The explosion in the Neukölln hospital

There was an explosion in another hospital in the Neukölln district. The police believe that the perpetrator used illegal pyrotechnics in the incident. The hospital operator confirmed that the blast damaged the entrance to the radiotherapy department and the side entrance to the building. “Window panes and doors were damaged,” a hospital spokesman said.

The reception and waiting room are currently unusable and patients have to enter through a side door, he added. In addition, the hospital operates without problems.
