The Slovak Republic commemorates on Thursday 33rd anniversary of its establishment as a sovereign and independent state. “For more than three decades of a successful story of independence, the Slovak Republic has established itself as a stable part of the international community. Even in 2026 we will promote national interests with a sovereign, responsible and predictable foreign policy, which will be for the benefit of Slovakia and its inhabitants,” declared Blanár.

He added that the Slovak Republic will continue in the coming year balanced foreign policy oriented to all four cardinal points and develop bilateral and multilateral relations with strategic partners in the European Union, the transatlantic area, as well as in other regions of the world. The head of Slovak diplomacy emphasized that the year 2026 means more than two decades of membership in the European Union for the Slovak Republic, which actively shapes the lives of Slovak citizens and brings them opportunities for free movement, work, study and business.

At the same time, according to his words, we face the challenges of new security, illegal migration and a decline in competitiveness in the EU. As he explained, the year 2026 will be significant for Slovak diplomacy from the point of view of international commitments and presidencies. Slovakia is preparing to take over the presidency of the Vyšehrad Group (V4), which will begin on July 1, and in which it wants to emphasize regional cooperation, practical projects and the search for joint solutions in the topics that unite us within the European Union.

In 2026, Slovakia will also continue to actively prepare and gain support for the candidacy for a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations (UN) for the years 2028-2029. 20 years since he first served in the UN Security Councilsince in 2006 she became its non-permanent member for the first time. We want to build on this experience and reaffirm our ambition to actively contribute to strengthening peace, security, multilateralism and compliance with international law in the world,” said Blanár.

The Department of Diplomacy will also support in 2026 economic diplomacy also by developing a network of economic diplomatswho help companies establish themselves in foreign markets, support investments and contribute to the creation of job opportunities.

According to Blanár, Slovak diplomacy will continue even in intensive foreign activities at the highest political level aimed at supporting bilateral and multilateral relations. “Slovak diplomacy will consistently promote a peaceful solution, especially the war in Ukraine, dialogue and cooperation, while the national interests of the Slovak Republic will remain our priority. “Foreign policy makes sense if its results are felt by people in everyday life – whether it is economic stability, security, job opportunities or the protection of Slovaks abroad,” concluded Blanár.
