Project requires consultation of inquiries before releasing weapons
The Public Security Committee of the Chamber of Deputies approved the project by deputy Max Lemos (PDT-RJ) that prohibits the acquisition, possession and carrying of firearms by people responding to an investigation or trial for violence against women.
The text prevents the granting of authorization to those investigated for physical, sexual or psychological attacks and obliges responsible bodies to consult investigation records and legal actions before releasing weapons. It also provides for fines, seizure of weapons and punishments in case of fraud or concealment of information.
The proposal also determines public awareness campaigns about domestic violence and the creation of an anonymous channel for reporting attempts to purchase weapons by aggressors.
The matter It now goes to other committees before a possible vote in the plenary.
