Temer talks about flattery in Sapucaí and criticizes Lula – 02/16/2026 – Politics

The former president () reacted to his mention in the Acadêmicos de Niterói parade in Rio de Janeiro this Sunday (15), in honor of the president (), saying he “misses Tuiuti”, in reference to the samba school that in 2018.

In this Sunday’s parade, Temer appeared on the scene in which he tore off the sash of former president Dilma Rousseff (PT), in reference to her impeachment. He was Dilma’s deputy and is criticized by the left, which characterizes the impeachment as a coup and a step towards the rise of Jair Bolsonaro () years later.

In a note sent by his advisor, Temer called the parade held in honor of Lula “flattery”.

“As samba is the space for creativity and fantasy, it makes no sense to demand historical accuracy in a plot or to question the exchange of social criticism for flattery in Sapucaí”, he stated. “Political satire is part of the Carnival tradition. And as a defender of freedom of expression and artistic freedom, I do not judge the choices made as a theme on the avenue.”

The problem, said Temer, is when they adopt “illusionism on the Esplanada, promoting fiscal irresponsibility, high interest rates and growing public debt — and denying achievements, such as labor, secondary education and pension reforms.”

“It’s sad to see the exchange of the bridge to the future for a return to the past. Look at Brazil there… people!”, he concluded in a note.

In 2018, Temer was portrayed by Tuiuti as a vampire. The school cited his government’s labor reform while questioning the extent to which slavery had ended.

The parade in honor of President Lula this Sunday, in turn, told the politician’s story from his childhood until he reached the Presidency.

The event included members of the school parading in red clothes with stars on their chests, but without the PT number 13. The jingle “olê, olê, hello, Lula! Lula!” appeared in the plot, as well as a reference to Bolsonaro as a clown and prisoner.
