Almost 30 years after the plane crash which resulted in the death of members of the Killer Castor Beansthe family members reached an agreement to exhume the bodies and transform part of the ashes into fertilizer for planting five trees in the BioParque Cemitério de Guarulhosthe musicians’ hometown in Greater São Paulo.
The announcement was made this Saturday (21), through the group’s and the cemetery’s social networks.
According to the publication, the initiative is a tribute to and integrates a broader action to re-signify memory and posthumous tributes.
The place will be called Jardim BioParque Memorial Mamonas and will bring the concept of BioParque, which combines posthumous tribute, affective memory, sustainability and environmental preservation.
The proposal envisages the use of cremation ashes together with the seeds of natives, which will be monitored by a team of experts, creating a symbolic cycle in which life continues from memory.
“More than a memorial, the space aims to be an emotional heritage, where time does not erase memories, it only transforms them,” the cemetery said in a statement.
Tragedy in Serra da Cantareira
In March 1996, after a performance in Brasília, the band members boarded a jet on their way to Guarulhos.
During the flight, the plane collided with Serra da Cantareira, killing everyone on board. The early death of the band members moved Brazil.
