Man invades convent and kills nun after “hearing voices” in PR

A 33-year-old man was arrested red-handed after break into a convent and kill a nunfrom 82, this Saturday (21), in Ivaí, in the interior of Paraná.

In a statement to the PCPR (Paraná Civil Police), he reported that he had used crack and alcoholic beverages during the early hours of the morning and, after that, began to hear voices telling him to kill someone.

The man stated that, after that, he jumped over the convent wall.

Still in his statement, he said that, when he saw the nun, identified as Sister Nadia Gavasnki, she had questioned him about his presence at the place and he replied that he was working at the event.

According to him, Nadia would not have believed his version, and so he would have pushed her. Then he started screaming for help.

At this time he attacked the elderly woman and suffocated her. The boy denied having directly hit her head, but admitted that the woman may have suffered injuries from the fall. The suspect also denied any act of sexual violence against the victim or intention to steal objects.

After the crime, he left the place, approached those who attended the convent and said that he had found the nun fallen.

In testimony, one of the nuns, sister Nadia’s convent companions, stated that the victim used to go to the place of crime always after lunch to feed the chickens who lived there.

A photographer, who was recording an event at the monastery, stated that she was approached by the boy shortly after the crime. She says he was nervous and had blood on his clothes and scratches on his neck.

She reports that he would have reinforced the version that he was an employee of the convent. Suspicious, the professional discreetly recorded part of the interaction and requested support from others present to call an ambulance

As the victim was being rescued, the suspect fled the scene. Based on the footage taken by the witness, the man, who was already known to the police teams by and theft, was identified.

The PMPR (Military Police of the State of Paraná) carried out immediate measures and managed to locate him at his home. He tried to escape when he noticed the presence of the police and, during the approach, tried to punch and kick the officers. When questioned, he admitted to committing the crime.

The author was charged with the crimes of asphyxiation and a resource that made it difficult for the victim to defend himself, as well as resistance. He was sent to the penitentiary system.

The PCPR still will investigate the possible commission of a sexual crimecompleted or attempted, due to the victim having partially removed clothing. The hypothesis will be analyzed after the expert reports are completed.

Convent regretted what happened

The Congregation of the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate lamented, in a statement, what happened to Sister Nadia.

In the statement, the convent classified the action as “an act of unjustifiable violence”and said he sympathized with the victim’s family and friends.

In addition, the congregation reported that the institution is working with the authorities to clarify what happened. Sister Nadia was laid to rest this Sunday afternoon (22), in Prudentópolis, also in Paraná.
