Escribano (Indra), Ibex Executive of the Year award: “The market supports my plan” | Companies

The executive president of Indra, Ángel Escribano, received this Tuesday. “I collect it on behalf of each of the people who work at Indra today who strive to build this project every day,” stated Escribano in the first edition of this award, whose award ceremony was held on the floor of the Madrid Stock Exchange, in an event sponsored by AWS with the collaboration of Portia and BME. Escribano has assured that Indra, which was the value that grew the most in the Ibex 35 last year, with an increase of 184%, is immersed in “building one of the most important industrial and technological projects for Spain and Europe.” The first executive of the multinational has indicated that he collects the award on behalf of “those who hold the pulse in the midst of uncertainty, those who do not give up, those who believe, persevere, get up early and continue working when no one applauds.”

“I am used to things not being easy, to building from the foundations,” added the manager a few days after his company, Escribano Mechanical & Engineering, Indra’s second shareholder with 14.3% of the shares,. A decision that was motivated by the doubts expressed by SEPI, the largest shareholder with 28% of the company, due to the conflict of interest of the operation. “Those who know me know that I am a dreamer, an optimist, a tireless worker. But, above all, I am an industrialist. A manufacturer (…) Today the technology and defense industry in Spain is at a historic turning point. And I believe in an Indra that responds to that challenge with responsibility and with a vision: it must be the company that creates technological confidence for Spain and Europe. That has always been my plan. A plan that the market has supported and that tells me that we are on the right path,” stated the manager.

Escribano recalled, in turn, that Europe is at a crucial moment due to the need to rearm in the face of the Russian threat and the distance from a historical partner like the United States. “Today’s world has awakened a conscience in Europe, the need to defend our rights and freedoms, our independence. The defense of Europe begins in its factories and its engineering centers. Technology is the basis of strategic competition and the foundation of economic security.”

The president of Indra has explained that this autonomy “is built with cohesive industrial chains capable of working together on large international programs”, in line with the Government’s mandate to create a national defense champion on land platforms that pulls the rest of the sector. “That is why in the last year we have signed more than 140 alliances with companies of all sizes, with small Spanish companies and also with some of the largest companies in the world,” added the businessman who signed this Wednesday. “I like to think that we are creating a fabric that moves the economies of many areas of the country and encourages many young people. That we are laying the foundations for a stronger and more resilient economy, for a better future.”

The manager made this speech at an event with a notable presence of Ibex 35 executives, as well as various officials from Indra itself. In addition to the CEO, José Vicente de los Mozos, the independent directors María Aranzazu Díaz-LLadó, Oriol Pinya, Eva María Fernández, Teresa Busto and Bernardo Villazán were present at the event held at the Madrid Stock Exchange. On behalf of the State Society of Industrial Participations (SEPI), Miguel Sebastián and Antonio Cuevas attended the gala. Javier Escribano, proprietary director of EM&E, and Pablo Jiménez de Parga, proprietary director of Amber and secretary of the board of Prisa Media, publisher of Five Dayshave also been present at the event.

“Today we have a business project that generates employment, attracts talent and invests in technology. That achieves a local impact, promoting the industry, supporting many SMEs and startups in a common project,” celebrated Escribano, who also had words for the Armed Forces. “Our success comes from working collaboratively with our militaries and understanding and serving their operational needs.”

Looking to the future, the manager has indicated that Indra wants to be “where the architecture of the systems is defined, where it is integrated and where it is decided, with its own voice and a relevant role.” Indra, he stated, has positioned itself as “the only truly multi-domain company in Spain and one of the few in Europe.”

“We are also strong in Artificial Intelligence and chip manufacturing. IndraMind represents the most advanced sovereign AI platform in Europe. A key area for sovereignty and preserving our rights and freedoms. Through Indra Space we have shown next-generation technology for secure communications, satellite navigation and earth observation. At Indra we provide key services for the lives of citizens and their mobility, we are present in air traffic management systems for almost any flight,” the manager recalled, highlighting that the company is not only defense.

For the next few years, he has warned that not everything is done: “There is a long way to go and today, to all of Indra and to all of you, I want to say something very simple. Let’s dare to believe, because I have seen it. I have seen what happens when effort becomes culture. I have seen what happens when a vision is sustained with discipline. I have seen what happens when a group of people continues to work. That is commitment and duty. And that is also the way to serve our country.”
