President says he asked Xi Jinping for investment in the construction of the Salvador-Itaparica bridge, in Bahia
The president (PT) said this Thursday (April 2, 2026) that “China is the country that shows the most willingness to work with Brazil”. In an interview with TVRecordstated that the government “We have a very strong partnership” with the Chinese.
Lula said that he asked the President of China, Xi Jinping, on 3 occasions, to invest in the construction of the Salvador-Itaparica bridge, in Bahia. According to the PT member, the work should begin in July and will, according to him, be “extraordinary”. A Chinese consortium also participates in the venture.
Commercial exchange between Brazil and China the record value of US$171 billion in 2025, according to a report by the CEBC (Brazil-China Business Council).
The amount represents a growth of 8.2% compared to 2024 and exceeds by more than 100% trade with the United States in the same period, which totaled US$83 billion.
