A man named Lewis Goodfield (37) had long-term unexplained stomach problems. But when he finally decided to seek help at the hospital, he heard news that completely changed his life. , doctors discovered that a large tumor was growing in his brain.
- For years, Lewis suffered from severe, unexplained stomach pains.
- After visiting the hospital, a large tumor was accidentally discovered in his brain.
- Doctors diagnosed him with grade two glioma, which was ultimately unrelated to the stomach pains.
Lewis, from the Welsh village of Beddau, had been complaining of excruciating abdominal pain for several years. The father of two has already been hospitalized twice for this mysterious condition, but doctors have been unable to find any logical cause. In March 2025, he therefore visited the hospital again, where he literally collapsed from the pain. The paramedics suspected a seizure and did a CT scan, which revealed something completely unexpected. “They found me a unit there. It was a huge shock not only for me, but also for my friends and family. It hit me hard,” he said.
The following month, Lewis was told by doctors that he had grade two glioma, a type of tumor that arises from malignant cells in the brain or spinal cord. It turned out that the abdominal pain had nothing to do with it, and the dangerous tumor was discovered by accident.
The operation saved his life
The service technician from Wales was given two options to choose from – either go for regular follow-ups or undergo an operation to remove the tumor. He opted for a craniotomy, in which part of the patient’s skull is temporarily removed.
Lewis explained that he was fully conscious throughout the procedure. “I could hear the drilling and the surgeons talking. It was really strange. Later, they showed me the selected tumor right on the palm of my hand. I was a little shocked when I saw him because he was about the size of an egg“, he noted.
He is still in pain
The difficult operation was finally successful and the surgeons managed to remove the tumor. Since the formation was not malignant, doctors believe that they discovered it in time. Despite this, Lewis continues to have major health problems. He can’t drive or work, but what bothers him the most is that he still has the same excruciating stomach pains. “I can’t live like this. I tried different diets, gave up spicy food and stopped drinking alcohol for a few months. Nothing helped,” he admitted.
To this day, doctors have not been able to determine the real cause of his abdominal problems. “Specialists are at a loss. One of them said I would just have to learn to live with it“, he stated.
The operation also significantly affected the young father’s life. Since having the tumor removed from his brain, Lewis has had difficulty with busy environments and is much more bothered by noise and bright lights. Even that didn’t deter him from trying to raise awareness about cancer and currently he’s even collecting money for The Brain Tumor Charity.
