China observes, takes note and adjusts strategy. That is the central idea defended by Australian military strategist Mick Ryan, who maintains that the war in Ukraine has become a laboratory from which powers such as the Asian giant are drawing key lessons. According to his analysis, Beijing is not only following the conflict closely, but is actively studying tactical and technological innovations developed on the ground.
Ryan, former major general and author of The Transformation of War, explained in an interview with media outlets such as Espresso TV and Slawa.TV what China has a long tradition of observing foreign conflicts to perfect its own military doctrine.. In this case, he considers that the Ukrainian experience – marked by the intensive use of drones, hybrid warfare and constant adaptation – is directly influencing the way 21st century conflicts are conceived.
The analyst emphasizes that, although China does not participate with troops in the conflict, Its role is not neutral. China, Ryan maintains, stands out precisely for its ability to analyze these types of scenarios. It does not simply observe, but seeks to identify which tactics work, which fail, and how they can be integrated into its own military model.
