Minister Nunes Marques was elected this Tuesday (14) to the position of president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the body responsible for organizing the elections.
The inauguration is scheduled for the end of May. The term of office will be two years.
Marques will take command of the TSE after the end of the term of the current president, Minister Cármen Lúcia, who will complete two years at the head of the court at the end of May.
The vote was symbolic because the choice of the court’s command is made by seniority among the ministers who also make up the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The ministers used an electronic ballot box to vote.
The vice-president will be minister André Mendonça.
Profile
Born in Teresina, Nunes Marques is 53 years old and was nominated to the Supreme Court, in 2020, by then-president Jair Bolsonaro to fill the vacancy left by retired minister Celso de Mello.
