Lula nods to women at the end of the 6 X 1 scale

President says mothers “only have 1 day to rest and take care of their family”; reduction in working hours is the PT’s flag

The president (PT) made a nod to women when defending the end of the 6You only have 1 day to rest and take care of your family.” and therefore proposes a change in working hours. According to him, “Brazil is stronger with united families”.

“In Brazil, many mothers leave home to work early, with their children still asleep. And return late with their children already in bed. They only have 1 day to rest and take care of their family. This is not fair. Work dignifies, builds the country, but you cannot separate mothers and children. Therefore, we are proposing an end to the 6 x 1 scale, without salary cuts. Let’s go together. Brazil is stronger with families united”says Lula in the video.

Watch (40s):

This Wednesday (April 15, 2026) the CCJ (Constitution and Justice Commission) issues PEC 221 of 2019, which deals with the reduction of working hours.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sent, on Tuesday night (April 14, 2026), a bill on the same topic. The president of the Chamber, (Republicanos-PB), stated that he will meet with party leaders to start a round of negotiations on the joint processing of the two proposals in Congress. One of them will have to be prioritized.

Under an emergency regime, Congress has 45 days after receiving the text to vote on the proposal. If this does not happen, the project will lock the Chamber’s voting agenda and prevent the analysis of other matters until deliberation.

This mechanism was one of the reasons for sending the project in this way. In Planalto’s understanding, the PEC’s processing is slower and there is a risk that the proposal will not even be approved this year in Congress.
