Two men convicted of cargo theft were arrested this Friday morning (17) during Operation Tourniquet, carried out by the Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The action was conducted by agents from the 18th DP (Praça da Bandeira), with support from the 40th DP and the 4th Area Police Department (DPA – Leste Fluminense and Lagos Region).
The prisoners are Kelvin Briere Lyra and Marcelo Gomes, who were fugitives from justice in Espírito Santo. They were located in Araruama, in the Lagos Region, where they were hiding after leaving their state of origin.
According to the corporation, the arrest was possible after an exchange of intelligence information with CIAT Norte (Center for Intelligence and Telematic Analysis North), linked to the Civil Police of Espírito Santo. Joint monitoring led agents to the address where the pair were found.
According to investigations, Kelvin is identified as the leader of a criminal organization specializing in cargo theft, operating mainly on highways such as BR-101, in the region of Viana (ES). The group acted by approaching drivers and stealing goods, in actions marked by threats and surrendered victims.
The arrest warrants are the result of convictions for a crime that occurred in May 2017, on BR-262, when a truck loaded with food, such as meat and fish, was stolen. The sentences are 9 years for Kelvin and 8 years for Marcelo.
In addition to this case, the two are also investigated for their participation in other cargo thefts connected to the same refrigerator.
After arrest, they were taken to the police unit responsible for the actionwent through the usual procedures and were then sent to the prison system, where they remain at the disposal of the Justice Department.
