Decree covers the elderly, pregnant women, mothers of children and adolescents, people with disabilities or serious illnesses
The president (PT) on Monday (Dec 23, 2024) pardon for minority groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, mothers of children and adolescents, people with disabilities or serious illnesses, such as terminal-stage HIV. The PT member also maintained the 2023 decision not to grant pardon to those convicted of the extremist acts of January 8th.

Find out who received the pardon:
- convicted of crimes without violence or serious threat:
- culpable crimes (without intention);
- sentence less than or equal to 8 years and have served part of the sentence (1/5 or more, depending on recidivism).
- convicts with special conditions:
- elderly, pregnant women, or those with serious illnesses (e.g. advanced cancer, kidney failure);
- people with severe disabilities or severe autism spectrum disorders;
- people living with terminally ill HIV.
- mothers and caregivers:
- women with children up to 12 years old (or any age, if disabled) who depend on their care.
- additional criteria for sentence reduction:
- participation in educational or work programs;
- recidivism and good behavior.
CHRISTMAS RELEASE
The pardon is the remission of the sentence for some detentions if the requirements established by a decree of the President of the Republic are met. The determination is guided by the guidelines defined by the CNPCP.
