In Italy’s Tuscany, more than 3,500 people were evacuated from their homes due to a forest fire, which continues to rage between the cities of Pisa and Lucca. The DPA agency drew attention to this, reports TASR.
The municipality of San Giuliano Terme is particularly affected near Monte Faeta, and the situation worsened on Friday night. The DPA states that this area is a popular tourist destination. Local authorities ordered all residents to leave the region on Thursday evening. The president of Tuscany, Eugenio Giani, described the situation as “very difficult”.
A fire broke out in the area a few days ago. Dozens of rescue units are on site, supported by firefighting planes and helicopters. Soldiers were also deployed to help put out the fire. According to local authorities the work of extinguishing is complicated by the wind, which continues to fan the flames.
