Cármen Lúcia resigns her seat at the TSE and Toffoli is elected to the position

Minister Cármen Lúcia resigned, this Wednesday, 13th, from the remaining period of her mandate at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). She sent a letter to the president of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Edson Fachin, communicating her decision.

On Tuesday (12), the minister transferred the presidency of the Electoral Court to minister Kassio Nunes Marques. As a result, he decided to leave in advance not only the command of the TSE, but also his seat on the court. Initially, his term would run until August.

This Wednesday (13), Minister Dias Toffoli was elected to the vacancy in a symbolic way, following the seniority criterion adopted for the composition of the court. Toffoli is already part of the collegiate and served as substitute minister.

The Superior Electoral Court is traditionally composed of seven effective members: three ministers from the STF, two ministers from the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) and two jurists appointed by the President of the Republic.

From now on, the new composition of ministers will be formed by Nunes Marques, André Mendonça, Dias Toffoli, Antonio Carlos Ferreira (STJ), Ricardo Villas Boas Cueva (STJ), Floriano Azevedo Marques (jurist) and Estela Aranha (jurist).

With the changes, minister Flávio Dino will take on a position as substitute minister.
