Stores from all States and the Federal District participate in the action; discounts reach 70% on products and services
The 20th edition of DLI (Tax Free Day) is held this Thursday (May 28, 2026). The national campaign seeks to raise awareness among the population about the impact of the country’s tax burden. The event is promoted by the CNDL (National Confederation of Store Managers) and the CDL (Chamber of Store Managers) Jovem. It brings together thousands of retailers who sell products and services with discounts of up to 70%, an amount that corresponds to taxes not passed on to the consumer.
The initiative focuses on the debate on tax reform and defends the need for equality between Brazilian and international companies. Foreign digital commerce platforms often operate under favorable tax regimes, which undermine national competitiveness.
The campaign information is available for consultation. Retailers from all sectors and states can register until this Thursday (May 28).
“The DLI is a wake-up call to public authorities: Brazil needs real simplification and, above all, efficient public spending. We cannot accept an unpayable tax burden with the return of precarious basic services. Retail wants to grow and create jobs, but the State needs to be a facilitator and not an obstacle“, states the president of the CNDL, José César da Costa.
According to the national coordinator of CDL Jovem, Raphael Paganini, “Tax payers often don’t realize how much they work just for taxes”. According to him, DLI makes this weight visible. “We want the population to understand that the high price is not the fault of the retailer, but of a complex and costly system. Our fight is for a country where entrepreneurship is possible with predictability and where Brazilian companies have the same conditions to compete as foreign companies.”
The expectation for the 2026 edition is to surpass the mark of 50,000 retailers reached last year. The campaign involves the participation of street retailers, shopping malls and gas stations.
