Who is Daniel Perez, Trump’s nominee for US Embassy in Brazil

Allied to the Republican’s agenda, he is the current president of the Florida House of Representatives

Daniel Perez describes himself as ‘first-generation Cuban-American’

The White House announced this Monday (1st) that the North American president, Donald Trumpsent to the Senate to take over the United States Embassy in Brazil. From the Republican Party, the parliamentarian has been in charge of the Florida House of Representatives since 2024.

Son of Cuban immigrants, Perez describes himself as “first-generation Cuban-American”. He was born on June 22, 1987, in New York. Six years later, in 1993, the family moved to suburban Westchester, Florida. Graduated from the Faculty of Law at Loyola New Orleans University, the deputy also works as a internal legal consultant from the health plan company Doctors Health Care Plans, Inc.

Perez was elected for the Florida House of Representatives em 2017. According to his official website, the deputy defended “important laws” linked to child welfare, health, family stability, education and electoral integrity.

In recent weeks, Perez has been starring Clashes with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. The parliamentarian prevented the advancement of his party colleague’s projects.

Through social media, the deputy demonstrates that he is allied with Trump’s agenda and uses expressions associated with the “Make America Great Again” movement (Make America Great Again, in free translation), or MAGA. In January, Perez spoke out in favor of the United States operation in Venezuelawhich resulted in the capture of former leader Nicolás Maduro.

To take command of the Embassy in Brasília, in addition to approval by the North American Senate, Perez must receive the Brazilian government agreement.

The post of US ambassador to Brazil is vacant since the end of former United States President Joe Biden’s termin January 2025. The diplomatic mission in Brasília is led by chargé d’affaires Gabriel Escobar. He will be replaced, starting in July, by Natasha Franceschi.

Previously, the lawyer Elizabeth Bagley commanded the United States Embassy. Appointed by Biden, she left Brazil before Trump’s inauguration.
