Caiado defends Covid vaccine in discussion with podcaster – 06/08/2026 – Panel

The president’s pre-campaign considered positive the exposure he gained on social media from a discussion he had last week with right-wing podcaster Felipe Sestaro, about the importance of vaccination.

In an interview with the podcast “Iron Talks”, with an editorial line close to Bolsonarism, Sestaro relativized the importance of vaccines

A doctor by training, Caiado responded in a tough tone, highlighting the role of vaccines and advocating for them to be mandatory, including so that children can attend school. This point is opposed by the right, which sees violations of individual rights and freedom.

“When you tell a mother that, if she doesn’t get vaccinated, she won’t have access to daycare, the Department of Health is right. It is imposing health conditions so that that child doesn’t suffer harm tomorrow,” said Caiado.

He added that the Covid vaccine only exists today because it gives results. “If there was any disability, would it still be produced today?” asked the presidential candidate.

Caiado also countered the podcaster by saying that corticosteroids helped combat the symptoms of Covid, but do not attack the causes of the disease.

For a strategist from Caiado, the former governor only reinforced opinions he expressed since the beginning of Covid, in 2020, when he supported and defended social isolation. Six years later, however, many voters no longer remember this position.

Thus, a political effect for the pre-candidate defending science is to broaden his appeal to a more center-right electorate, or even among right-wingers who remember Bolsonaro’s performance during the pandemic with disgust.

The assessment is that, even if resistance to him increases among more radical Bolsonarists, the political balance is favorable and will help Caiado to position himself as a right-wing candidate who dialogues with the center.
