The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB), stated this Tuesday (16) that he sees no irregularity in the payment of hotel rates made by Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, while he and senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) participated in a legal event in Lisbon, Portugal, in June 2024.
“I don’t see a problem, it’s a corporate event, a legal meeting, which I even participated in this year as president of the Chamber. So I don’t see any problem”, he said when questioned by journalists.
However, Motta avoided directly answering whether he was aware that the expenses would have been paid by Vorcaro or Banco Master. “I am very calm about this. The investigations are there, the bodies are working and I defend that the investigations can take place in the most impartial and impartial way possible”, he highlighted.
The president of the Chamber also minimized possible leaks involving his name and that of Vorcaro, stating that the investigations will demonstrate his conduct “in a correct, responsible way, as the exercise of parliamentary activity must be”.
According to the Federal Police, Vorcaro had paid for suites in a Lisbon hotel for Motta and Nogueira. During the investigation, the PF also found an exchange of messages that showed Vorcaro concerned about the exposure of private events that he promoted with politicians during the meeting in Lisbon.
In the message, he instructs one of his employees to provide security to prevent people outside the “men’s list” from entering. Among the participants on the list are Hugo Motta, Ciro Nogueira and federal deputy Luizinho (PP-RJ).
The report highlights Vorcaro’s concern for privacy at the event. In an audio described by the agents, the banker even says: “It could be the Pope who can’t come in. Nobody who isn’t on the list.”
When asked by journalists about the request for privacy made by Vorcaro, Motta stated that he did not remember the request and that he could not talk about what he did not do.
