The former federal deputy (PL-SP) stated this Tuesday (16) that the judgment of the (Supreme Federal Court) against him did not respect due legal process, was “unreasonable” and aimed to prevent his participation in this year’s elections.
Eduardo was unanimously convicted by the First Panel of the STF during the course of the process, on charges of having organized an attempt to intimidate the United States against the Brazilian Judiciary with the aim of preventing the trial of the coup plot — in which his father, (PL), was convicted.
The former deputy was trying to participate in this year’s election as Alesp (Legislative Assembly of the State of São Paulo), André do Prado (PL), pre-candidate for the Senate.
In a note released to the press after the Supreme Court’s decision, Eduardo stated that to date he has not been legally cited and attacked the rapporteur, minister.
“Any sentence without respect for due legal process is null and void, and, after so many international defeats, even Moraes knows this. That’s why the real objective of this reckless trial is just one: to remove my name from the elections”, says the former deputy.
With the conviction, Eduardo, who has lived in the United States since February last year, becomes a “dirty record” and is prevented from competing in the competition for up to eight years. There is still an appeal against the decision.
