Why did Mbappé celebrate a goal by playing the flute? – 06/16/2026 – Sport

Striker Kylian Mbappé’s celebration after scoring France’s first goal in the 2026 World Cup caught the attention of fans and the world press this Tuesday (16).

After opening the scoring, the Real Madrid striker ran to the edge of the field and simulated playing a transverse flute, in front of the fans at the stadium in New Jersey.

The celebratory gesture was suggested by British presenter James Corden, from Fox Sports, during an interview with Mbappé.

Last Saturday (13), the broadcaster published a video in which the French striker tells Corden that he learned to play the wind instrument when he was still little.

“My parents wanted me to explore many things and keep my mind open,” says Mbappé. “I tried playing for a year or two and it was fun.”

Next, the presenter stretches his arm and hands a transverse flute to the Frenchman. After a few tries, Corden suggests a new celebration. To which Mbappé replies: “Against Senegal, if I score.”

France beat Senegal 3-1 this Tuesday, with two goals from Mbappé. With that, he surpassed Messi and reached 14 goals in World Cups.

The French’s next game will be on Monday (22), at 6pm, against Iraq. Senegal will face the Norwegian team, on the same day, at 9 pm, in group I of the World Cup.
