Kelvinwelle
Satellite images show a band of warm water pushing across the Pacific. The current climate phenomenon is further driving up global temperatures
The image from the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich satellite shows the current Kelvin wave in the Pacific west of South America. Above-average sea surface temperatures are shown here in red.
A massive wave of warm water is currently moving along the equator through the Pacific. It stretches for hundreds of kilometers and raises the sea surface by a good 15 centimeters in some places. Satellite images have now documented the wave from orbit.
