After , now it’s stepmother Michelle’s turn to disrupt .
recorded one saying that Flávio Bolsonaro stabbed her in the back, humiliated her with his harshness and made alliances with which he has already called him and his father a thief and a Nazi. She also protested against the exclusion of women from the Bolsonarist lists for this year: Priscila Costa, passed over in Ceará after the alliance with , and , who was a candidate for the Senate in Santa Catarina for . By repeatedly saying that she only acted in agreement with her husband, Michelle strongly suggested that, when Flávio disauthorized her, he disauthorized Jair. After all, if she only repeats what Jair says, Wednesday’s video must also have been made with Bolsonaro’s blessing.
Flávio could have responded: “Dear stepmother, if I discarded those who think that my father and I are thieves and fascists, I would only have stupid allies left. And why the hell did you think that this movement here would empower women? Did you think that our problem with feminism was just breasts showing at marches? What are the chances of Jair Renan getting a job if half the population is not excluded from the competition?”
If you think I exaggerate, watch the video of Paulo Figueiredo, the accomplice of , in response to Michelle. It starts with “women vote very badly” (minute 29:43), “mainly single women” (29:58), goes on to call Michelle and Damares feminists (21:13), goes on to “you can pull the pubes out of your panties” (30:04) and concludes by saying that “if you knew the things I know” you would want to slit your wrists when Michelle calls Jair “my Galician”.
The “I know more than I can say” threat was mutual: the former first lady had ended her video by saying she had said “almost everything” she wanted.
Michelle hit where it hurts: Flávio’s performance in the polls is much worse among women (hence Figueiredo’s hatred). The far-right candidate’s only point of entry into this electorate is evangelical women, who hold Michelle in high regard, and, in many cases, identify with the right-wing candidates that Michelle supports.
Michelle Bolsonaro would not have recorded this video if she thought that Flávio would win the election. It was a gesture of dispute for Jair’s legacy. The legacy will only be up for grabs if Flávio loses.
Michelle must also know that the gang of zeros (zero one, zero two, etc.) will hold her responsible in case of defeat. As if Flávio wasn’t at the center of the biggest financial scandal in Brazilian history, as if Eduardo hadn’t plotted a tariff against Brazil, as if Jair, anyway.
Therefore, the main suspicion is that Michelle’s move was an attempt to distance herself from a candidacy that has a good chance of losing, and, worse, of leaving demoralized by the revelations of the Master case. If this is the diagnosis, it makes sense to stop swimming on the side of the likely drowned person and protect yourself for future disputes.
We don’t know if Michelle made her video to distance herself from Flávio about to be defeated. But if anyone else already wanted to do this, the crisis in the Bolsonaro family is a golden opportunity.
