Donald Trump, President of the USA
Trump issued a harsh threat to Iran, warning that the country could cease to exist if it continued to attack, and claimed that the US had launched a new wave of attacks against Iranian military installations. Tehran insists it has control over the Strait of Hormuz in the next 30 days of negotiations.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said Saturday night that U.S. planes reached storage locations of Iranian missiles and drones, as well as coastal radar installations, and accused Tehran of having ceasefire violated again.
“Airplanes of the United States just reached Iranian missile and drone storage sites, and coastal radar installations, for violating the ceasefire agreement, AGAIN!“, wrote Trump, adding, in an exasperated tone: “They may well never learn!”
The President then raised the tonemaking an explicit warning about the possible evolution of the conflict.
“There may come a time when we can no longer be reasonable and we will be forced to militarily complete the work that we have started with great success,” the US president wrote. “If this happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will cease to exist!”
The publication came at a time of rapid deterioration of the ceasefire, after attacks on commercial shipping near the Strait of Hormuz and new clashes between US and Iranian forces.
Tehran insists it has control over Hormuz
The Iranian Foreign Minister warned the US this Sunday that Tehran has absolute control over the Strait of Hormuz in the next 30 days negotiations and demanded that the US pressure Israel to withdraw from Lebanon.
According to Europa Press, Abbas Araqchi made these statements upon arrival in Iraq, where he will spend the day on an official visit, in the midst of new clashes with the USA involving air strikes and after an agreement between Lebanon and Israel that was rejected by Hezbollaha Lebanese paramilitary party and strategic ally of Tehran, which believes that the agreement contradicts the document signed by Iran and the USA.
“Unfortunately, the Zionist entity continues its attacks flights in Lebanon. The United States must fulfill its responsibility, force Israel to cease its attacks and withdraw from the areas it occupies in Lebanon, as this is the first clause of the memorandum”, he pointed out.
The first point of the document not only demands the suspension of Israeli bombings, but forces the parties to find a solution for Israel’s withdrawal from the country.
The agreement signed on Friday between Lebanon and Israel, however, only mentions a “gradual withdrawal” conditional on the verification of Hezbollah’s disarmament, something that the armed group has no intention of doing, understanding it to be an Israeli maneuver to leave the country defenseless.
Araqchi also warned the US that “the Strait of Hormuz will remain under the full supervision and management of Iran for the next 30 days, and once all obstacles are removedthe full capacity of the waterway will be restored.”
Responsibility for the strait, he added, lies with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”No other party or state is involved. This is perfectly clear in the memorandum of understanding, and any intervention or unilateral action will only worsen the situation and delay the reopening of the strait”, he stressed.
