The Federal Police (PF) arrested, last Saturday afternoon (9), a man convicted of the violent acts of January 8, 2023 who had fled to Argentina.
The information was released by the corporation itself. According to the PF, the man had been on the run since April this year. He was located by security forces in Cascavel, Paraná, when he returned to Brazil. “The action had the support of the Cascavel Municipal Guard”, informed the PF, in a note.
The PF did not release the name of the detained man. According to information from CNN Brazilhowever, it is Moacir José dos Santos, who was sentenced in October last year to 17 years in prison for the crimes of criminal association, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, attempted coup d’état, qualified damage and deterioration of heritage.

The man was arrested red-handed by the Military Police of the Federal District, inside Palácio do Planalto, on January 8, 2023. The police seized his cell phone and, from it, concluded that the suspect had actively participated in the violent acts.
In June this year, the Brazilian government was informed by Argentina that around 60 people wanted by the courts were in the neighboring country. On that occasion, Brazilian authorities began procedures for extradition requests.
In another similar operation, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) arrested another fugitive from January 8, Rubem Abdalla Barroso Júnior, 46 years old. Also according to the CNNhe was in a car on BR-290, in Rosário do Sul (RS). Rubem was hiding in Uruguay and returned to Brazil to buy a refrigerator.

In these cases, they must provide services to the community, pay fines ranging between R$1,000 and R$5,000, comply with a ban on using social media and participate in a course on the theme “Democracy, Rule of Law and Coup d’Etat ”.
