The governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans)decided to double down, win even more to his electorate and advance the privatization program, one of his main electoral banners.
According to information from journalist Raquel Landim, columnist for UOLthe São Paulo governor raised the target for delivering privatizations and concessions by the end of his current term, in December 2026.
Tarcísio reportedly informed his team at the Investment Partnerships Secretariat that he wants to obtain R$500 billion in works for the state of São Paulo by the end of the current government, with 25 auctions held and contracts signed.

So far, in almost 2 years of administration, R$340 billion has already been secured – the previous target, which should be easily achieved, was R$400 billion. The higher value obtained in some projects, such as the privatization of Sabesp, led to an adjustment of the initial target.
The next auctions scheduled in São Paulo are those for the Nova Raposo highway (on November 28) and the Alto Tietê Trens Urbanos (in March 2025).
Among the projects recently auctioned are the state lottery – which generated a series of protests against the government and legal action.

The main programs that should be included in the list of privatizations are the construction of housing and the so-called “retrofit” of buildings in the historic center of São Paulo (SP); the management of Fundação Casa units (formerly Febem); the concession of at least eight parks to the private sector; the Campos do Jordão railway (SP); the Ibirapuera Gymnasium; in addition to removal, storage and auction services for vehicles fined by Detran and the Department of Highways (DER).

Although he publicly states that he believes in the reversal of the former president’s legal situation and in Bolsonaro’s candidacy for the Planalto in 2026, Tarcísio is one of the most popular names to run against the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT)who should seek re-election.

Another possible path for Tarcísio is to postpone presidential plans and run for a new term for the government of São Paulo. Elected in 2022, he could run for re-election in two years.
