Macron, Trudeau and King Charles III paid tribute to the former US president; Carter had been in hospice care since 2023
World leaders commented this Sunday (Dec 29, 2024) on Jimmy Carter, at 100 years old. Since February 2023, the Democrat has been under palliative care at home.
On X (former Twitter), the president of France, (Renaissance, center), called the Democrat a “firm defender of the rights of the most vulnerable”.
King Charles III, of the British royal family, also mourned the death of the former chief executive. “It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of former President Carter. He was a committed public servant and dedicated his life to promoting peace and human rights. […] My thoughts are with President Carter’s family and Americans at this time.”he wrote.
The vice president of the USA, (Democrat), stated that the “The world is a better place because of President Carter”.
“I had the privilege of knowing President Carter for many years. I will always remember your kindness, wisdom and immense grace. His life and legacy continue to inspire me — and will inspire future generations.”he wrote.
The Democrat was the oldest living president in US history after the death of George HW Bush, aged 94, in 2018. Carter governed the country from 1977 to 1981.
Jimmy Carter faced health problems. On February 18, 2023, he began hospice care at home for melanoma (skin cancer) that had spread to his liver and brain.
Previously, Carter beat brain cancer in 2015, but had health problems in 2019 and underwent surgery to remove pressure on his brain.
