Bolsonaro judgment: healthier democracy and religion – 04/09/2025 – daily life

I call a set of religious beliefs used to justify unconditional support to former President Jair Messias Bolsonaro between. And their likely condemnation throw these myths. If God were a scholarship, as they imply such myths, they would have kept them Bolsonaro in the president’s chair or the blow would have prospered.

The first myth: God chose to be the president of Brazil. God does not choose presidents in modern democracies as he chose kings to the Old Testament reports. Bolsonaro was elected president by popular vote in 2018 and defeated in an attempted reelection in 2022, also for voters’ vote.

The second myth: a ‘friend of the evangelicals’, with evangelical wife and space for evangelicals in his administration would make a better government than predecessors. Bolsonaro’s mandate had nothing exceptional and, in many cases, as in the management of, a setback was shown for the country.

The third myth: the belief that the prayers in favor of Bolsonaro would ensure the success of his government and his reelection. From the prayers of O, which predicted a “presidency of breakdown” to Bolsonaro, to the fervent prayers of anonymous kneeling in the Cercadinho do Alvorada, there was no shortage of prayers crying for the success of his mandate.

The fourth myth: Supporting the modern state of Israel would bring economic prosperity to Brazil. Brazilian diplomat Oswaldo Aranha chaired the session in 1947, which led to the creation of the State of Israel (which, moreover, provided for the sharing of the Holy Land between Israel and Palestine). Since then, successive Brazilian governments have had good relations with Israel. Bolsonaro brought no news to Brazil’s diplomatic relations with Israel.

The fifth myth: Bolsonaro’s defeat in the 2022 elections would open a phase of persecution of evangelical churches in Brazil. The growth of evangelical churches before, during and after Bolsonaro shows that there was no and there is no persecution of evangelicals in Brazil. What megaigre owners call “persecution” is mere complaint not to honor debts with.

Jair Bolsonaro’s trial not only unmasks these evangelical myths propagated by their defenders, but also reaffirms truths that should never have been ignored by those who claim to be guided by the Bible.

“You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). This passage was often cited by Bolsonaro during the 2018 campaign. The former president, ironically, is being tried because he has come to the truth about his actions and his friends to circumvent the outcome of the ballot box. In this case, the truth releases Brazil and imprisoned Bolsonaro and its generals.

“… for what man sow, it will also reap” (Galatians 6: 7). Bolsonaro attacked democracy during his entire political career. She took advantage of her as much as she could and wanted to bury her as soon as she received the red card in reelection. Your condemnation will be the harvest of what you sown during your life.

“Hence, Caesar what is Caesar and God what is of God” (Matthew 22:21). Jesus established clear separation between religion and politics. However, the intentionally ignored Bolsonarist creed ignored this distinction, resulting in the expulsion of individuals from their churches for daring to criticize the political manipulation of faith by their shepherds.

Bolsonaro’s condemnation will mean a double victory: democracy and religion will expel from the social body a virus that has infiltrated and tried to undermine their internal defenses. The toxicity that Bolsonaro brought to democracy and religion does not heal with, but with the constitution and the Bible taken seriously.
