Russia will definitely respond to any aggression against its territory. In the general debate of the 80, the UN General Assembly (VZ), Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said this on Saturday. TASR reports this based on AFP and TASS and Sky News.
“Russia is blamed for planning an attack on the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union,” Lavrov said. “Russia has never had and has no such intentions. However, any aggression against my country will encounter a decisive reaction. There should be no doubt about that in NATO and the EU,” he added.
Readiness for negotiations
Lavrov stressed that Russia is still open to negotiations “on the removal of the basic causes of the conflict” in Ukraine. He mentioned the reliable guarantee of Russia’s security and its vital interests and the restoration of Russians’ rights and Russian -speaking persons in the territories under the control of the Ukrainian government “in full”.
“On this basis, we are ready to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine,” he said.
At a subsequent press conference, Lavrov commented on the alleged disturbance of the airspace of several EU countries and NATO by Russia in recent weeks. “We never destroy our unmanned aircraft or missiles to countries in Europe, whether they are EU members or NATO countries,” he said.
Lavrov also accused Western powers in a speech to the UN VZ, that by re -introducing UN sanctions, which is expected in the coming hours, they sabotage the diplomatic resolution of the Iran nuclear program. According to him, the rejection of Moscow’s request “has definitely revealed the West’s policy to sabotage the search for constructive solutions in the UN Security Council, as well as his efforts to force unilateral concessions from Tehran through blackmail and pressure”.
Warnings of war
According to Lavrov, Russia is concerned about the statements of several active politicians in EU and NATO countries, who are seriously starting to discuss the Third World War as a likely scenario. He claims that these people undermine any efforts to find a fair balance of interests between all members of the international community, trying to impose their one -sided approach to others and flagly violate the key requirement of the UN Charter – respect for equality of sovereign states. “This equality is the basis of objectively emerging multipolarity,” Lavrov said.
The head of Russian diplomacy considers it “futile” attempts to restore the previous Euro -Atlantic security model in Europe after the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, the West’s behavior “has depreciated the Euro -Atlantic security model based on NATO, the European Union and the organization for security and cooperation in Europe”. An alternative is to build an architecture of equivalent and indivisible security in Eurasia – not for NATO members and their allies, but for all countries and organizations on this continent without exception.
Middle East and UN
Lavrov, despite the latest criticism of the White House chief Donald Trump to the address of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Moscow sees “not only a desire to contribute to a realistic solution to the Ukrainian crisis, but also the desire to develop pragmatic cooperation without taking ideological attitude”.
On the margo of development in the Middle East Lavrov, he noted that Russia condemns the attack of militants from Hamas to Israel of October 7, 2023, but it does not justify the subsequent “brutal killing of the Palestinians” or Israel’s plans on the annexation of the West Bank of Jordan. At the same time, he criticized some countries for recognizing the Palestinian statehood only now at the UN General Assembly.
