Fluctuations recorded in the last two weeks “may cause consumption and production shutdowns that end up destabilizing the electrical system”.
Red Eléctrica, operator of the Spanish electricity system, detected “sudden voltage variations” over the past two weeks and called on the regulator to approve measures aimed at strengthening security of supply.
In a document sent to the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), the company requests that the proposed changes be submitted to public consultation before definitive approval, warning that the variations recorded “may cause consumption and production shutdowns that end up destabilizing the electrical system”, says the regulator CNMC, in a statement released this Wednesday.
According to the newspaper, the Recorded conditions cause alarm because they are similar to those of last springwhen the historic blackout occurred that left the Iberian Peninsula in the dark.
The warning comes after the operator’s report on the major blackout in the Iberian Peninsula in June that “the beginning of the historic blackout on April 28th” was attributed to the “malfunction” of a photovoltaic plant located in Badajoz.
“The evolution of the system in recent years has led to the emergence of these dynamics”, says the regulator.
