Serbian President Aleksandar Vučič accused Turkey on Wednesday of violating the UN Charter and the UN Security Council by arming Kosovo. Pristina had previously announced that she had received drones from the Turkish company Baykar in advance of a contract concluded last December. According to the report by Hina, TASR reports this.
Kosovský Prime Minister Albin Kurti on the Facebook network said that Skydagger RTF unmanned aircraft equipped with explosive heads for attacks on moving and static targets will strengthen Kosovo’s striking ability. In his arsenal are already Turkish drones Bayraktar TB2 and American aerovironment RQ-20 Puma. Ankara supplied the new drones three months before it originally planned.
“I am dismayed by the behavior of Turkey and the brutal violation of the UN Charter and the UN Security Council resolutions No. 1244, as well as the continued armament of authorities in Pristina,” Vučič responded to the X network and accused Ankara of ignoring regional security. “It is now clear that Turkey does not want stability in the West Balkans and dreams of restoring the Ottoman Empire. Serbia is a small country but we understand their real intentions”He added.
Head of the Serbian Government Office for Kosovo Petar Petkovič also criticized Ankara for arming Pristina and claimed that the drone was not supplied by chance, but “just a few days before the local elections” in Kosovo, scheduled for 12 October. Turkey thus provided Kurti with key support.
Vačič himself also expressed interest in the unmanned aircraft Baykraktar, but later abandoned the plan. He cited their sale Kosova as a reason. Serbia has since secured the Chinese CH-91 drones and tried to get other systems, for example from the Middle Eastsaid Hina.
In 2008, Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia, which the government in Belgrade refuses to recognize and continues to consider it part of the Serbian territory. Kosovo’s independence does not recognize Slovakia, Cyprus, Greece, Romania and Spain.
