Residents of the capital of Russia forced to appear for military service and undergo medical examinations. Some have disabilities.
The warning was given by the human rights project (Ir para a Floresta).
Os Moscow residents are receiving mass subpoenas to attend military enlistment boards and carry out medical examinations.
The phone calls piled up this weekend, always with the same story: the Moscow City Council is sending these notifications.
These are calls already with defined notice dates – and with plenty advance: for the spring months and, in one case, even for June and July.
It should be noted that compulsory military recruitment became annual on January 1st, but deployment for service is still possible from April 1st to July 15th or from October 1st to December 31st.
A Russian citizen reported being summoned for a medical examination on February 10th. Haven’t lived in Moscow for more than six months. The subpoena indicates his former address in the capital.
According to the same source, subpoenas were also sent to people who have certain physical limitations. In these cases, they must report the error and, if necessary, send a photocopy of their military ID card. “Do not appear in person, but also do not ignore the summons. If you do not appear, the military enlistment office may take action against you, including a search”, the statement read.
Human rights activists recommend that everyone check whether the call-up is legal, look for justifications for postponement or exemption for health reasons, or apply for an alternative civil service.
