The actor’s family James Van Der Beekwho died at the age of 48, shared this Wednesday (11) a donation organized to cover the health expenses that the artist incurred during treatment for a colorectal cancer.
“James Van Der Beek was a beloved husband, father and friend who touched the lives of everyone around him. After a long and courageous battle with cancer, James passed away on February 11, 2026, leaving behind his devoted wife, Kimberly, and her six wonderful children“, begins the message.
A explains that “throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial difficulties, doing everything in their power to support James and provide for his care.”
“After this loss, Kimberly and her children face an uncertain future. The costs of James’ medical treatment and long fight against cancer have left the family without resources. They are struggling to keep their home and ensure the children can continue their education and have some stability during this extremely difficult time. Support from friends, family and the community at large will make all the difference as they navigate the path ahead,” the post continues.
The family concludes by thanking you for your possible contribution as a way of supporting them. “Your generosity will help cover essential expenses, pay bills and support children’s education. James. The couple exchanged rings in 2010 and stayed together until the star’s death. He was married between 2003 and 2010 to actress Heather McComb.
He leaves Olivia, of 15, Joshua13, Annabelle12, Emilia, of 9, Gwendolynof 7, and Jeremiah 4 years old.
The star, who played Dawson Leery on “Dawson’s Creek,” announced in November 2024 that he was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer.
In September 2025, the cast reunited at a charity event held in support of F Cancer and Van Der Beek. The actor regretted not attending for health reasons, however, he made a surprise appearance and was present virtually.
In addition to the series, James Van Der Beek also starred in the film “Marcação Cerrada” (1999) and in recent years, he has worked with dubbing. Some of the most recent works were in the series “Vampirinha” (2017) and in the film “Outro Amor Fora do Tempo” (2025).
