Crispy, hot roll with stringy cheese. Ruben stuffs the juicy meat to the brim

The Ruben sandwich is a classic New York snackwhich was born in the USA at the beginning of the 20th century. The classic version consists of rye bread, thinly sliced ​​corned beef, sauerkraut, Swiss cheese and Russian or Thousand Island dressing. Everything is heated or grilled, thanks to which the cheese melts and the bread becomes crispy. Reuben is considered a symbol comfort food in New York. Below you will find a recipe for one of the most popular variants of this snack. You will prepare two sandwiches with the given amount of ingredients.

Ingredients:

  • 4 slices of pumpernickel (or other sourdough bread),
  • a few slices of corned beef,
  • 4 slices of Emmentaler cheese,
  • 100 g sauerkraut,
  • 2 tablespoons of butter.

Ingredients for the sauce:

  • 100g majonezu,
  • 50 g ketchup,
  • 1/2 teaspoon of horseradish,
  • a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce,
  • 1/4 teaspoon of Tabasco,
  • a tablespoon of finely chopped onion,
  • a pinch of sweet pepper,
  • salt, pepper (to taste).

How to do it:

1. Combine all the ingredients for the sauce in a bowl and mix thoroughly.

2. Spread each slice of bread with butter and on the other side with sauce.

3. Place a portion of beef on two slices (on the sauce side). Cover each with two slices of Emmental. Place portions of cabbage on top of the cheese. Cover with the remaining slices of bread (sauce towards the cabbage).

4. Fry the finished Ruben sandwiches on both sides in a pan or grill them (if you have a home grill). If you use a frying pan, cover it with a lid while roasting. This process is supposed to melt the cheese. The bread should become crispy on the outside.

5. Serve Ruben sandwiches hot, with pickled cucumbers added.
