TSE unanimously rejects Jorge Seif’s impeachment – 02/12/2026 – Politics

The (Superior Electoral Court) unanimously rejected the appeal that requested the impeachment and ineligibility of the senator (PL-SC).

The ministers followed the rapporteur’s vote. Minister Floriano de Azevedo Marques acknowledged “shadow” in the senator’s campaign spending, but considered that there was no evidence that Seif would be on flights made by Havan aircraft. The senator celebrated the decision and stated that it represents a “victory for the people”.

“The truth may be attacked, but it never ceases to exist,” he declared.

The parliamentarian was accused of abuse of economic power. He would have benefited from the structure of the Havan store chain in the state during his campaign in 2022. The case was scheduled to be judged in 2024, but the court understood that it was necessary to deepen the investigations and postponed the case.

Candidates are prohibited from receiving donations from companies. The use of private company aircraft in campaigns would qualify as a form of donation, which is why it is also illegal.

The state Public Ministry gave a favorable opinion to the revocation. The action was filed by the coalition led by the PSD in Santa Catarina — Seif still has four of his eight years in office ahead of him.

“As has been said since the rapporteur minister’s vote, there is proof of facts and indicative evidence of what happened. What there is is no complete proof that could lead to a revocation of mandate in this case”, said the minister, president of the TSE.
