In the High, Western and Low Tatras, it applies on Saturday at an altitude above 1,700 meters increased avalanche danger corresponding to the third degree of the five-part international scale. The Avalanche Prevention Center of the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) in Liptovský Hrádek informed about it.
“Under the influence of snowfall and strong winds in the previous days, unstable snow slabs and pillows have formed, especially in northern orientations. New snow and wind-blown slabs are in some places deposited on an old hard base, in some places on a weak layer of snow with which they are not sufficiently bonded. An avalanche can be released in steep and very steep terrain. Sunny weather in the morning can cause the release of spontaneous avalanches.” informs the center.
There is still a small avalanche danger in Mala and Veľká Fatra and the eastern part of the Low Tatras (first degree). Up to ten centimeters of new snow has fallen above the forest line, which is lying on a hard surface with which it is not well connected. The warming continues. Smaller avalanches can only be released exceptionally on steep and very steep slopes, their risk is a person being pulled into exposed terrain.
