The governor of Minas Gerais states that the sum of votes from the right will make a difference when it comes to concentrating the vote on whoever remains in the dispute
The governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema (Novo), gave an exclusive interview to the program Morning Show on Young Panthis Tuesday (16). The governor commented on the right-wing pre-candidates for president and how variety does not diminish the strength of the Brazilian right.
“The PSD will launch a candidate, Flávio is one candidate, I will be another and this, contrary to what is said, does not weaken the right, on the contrary, it strengthens it. We are united, in the second round we will be together, which is the most important moment”he explained.
For Zema, the pre-candidates, whoever is chosen by the PSD, himself and senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), are well-evaluated politicians and will bring more votes than any other candidate.
He also states that, in the second round, the sum of these votes will make a difference when it comes to concentrate voting on whoever remains in the race. No case to be Flávio Bolsonaro, the governor said he has his support and that all of this has already been agreed and discussed with former president Jair Bolsonaro.
Criticism of Lula
The governor of Minas Gerais also confirmed his presence at the protest in the capital of São Paulo, scheduled for March 1st by federal deputy Nikolas Ferreira (PL). The act focuses on against President Luis Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) and the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Dias Toffoli and Alexandre de Moraes.
“I will be there in São Paulo on March 1st giving full support. Brazilians need to speak out, Brazilians need to mobilize against this government that is there attacking the vast majority of them. So I will be there with Nikolas, he is a person that I admire a lot, with whom he is close and will have a bright political future”, said the governor.
Low condemned the choice of the school’s samba-enredoAcademics from Niterói, who paid homage to President Lula in the Rio de Janiero parades this year. He said that the Novo party will file a lawsuit to question the parade, in addition to questioning the year decided for the tribute. “First, we still have the electoral issue. Why didn’t the president do this during the other 4 years? Did he do it in the year he is running for re-election?”, pointed out the governor.
Future of the Minas Gerais government
Regarding his successor in the government of Minas Gerais, Zema declared that what will happen is still undefined, but that his vice-governor, Mateus Simões (PSD), is already a concrete option. “Matthew is a brilliant person, he has been my right-hand man since my second year in office and we also know that there are some other considerations”, he stated.
According to the governor, senators Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD) and Cleitinho Azevedo (Republicans), the former mayor of Belo Horizonte Alexandre Kalil (PDT) and the former president of the chamber of councilors of Belo Horizonte Gabriel Vedo (MDB), are also possible options.
Zema, however, declared that much will still change and that believes in the strength of Simões. “I am very confident that Mateus Simões, taking on the role until April 4th, which is the deadline, will have time to prove himself to the people of Minas Gerais”.
Zema as Flávio Bolsonaro’s deputy
Behind the scenes on the right it has been circulating that plan A to be . The assessment is that the governor would add weight and expand the reach of the ticket, as he was re-elected and has good approval in the second largest electoral college in the country. Despite this, important names on the right heard by the column highlighted the fact that Zema was unable to promote his vice-president, Mateus Simões (PSD), as a new name in the State as worrying. For them, this may indicate low adherence.
The PL president himself, Valdemar Costa Neto, however, has already publicly shown interest in Zema. Still, there are difficulties involved – mainly the fact that the governor has already expressed his desire to become the head of the ticket in any way, and not to be vice-president.
The definition is still in the initial phase, but there is already an order of preference among allies involved in putting together the candidacy.
