Interior Ministry uses surveillance software from a shady company and doesn’t want to talk about it

The Austrian security authorities want to be able to monitor social media better – and perhaps even more. At the end of 2024, the Ministry of the Interior invested almost 900,000 euros in a controversial surveillance tool that is used, among others, by the US deportation authority ICE. This is shown by an entry in an EU database. However, the authorities remain consistently silent about what exactly is supposed to happen with it and how extensive the surveillance options really are.
