These are beautiful flowers that many people grow at home. However, many of them believe that these are annual plants and throw them into the trash after they bloom. It’s a mistake with a little help, these plants can bloom again next season. The most important issues are: watering in the first weeks after the inflorescences dry and adequate protection of the bulb.
Hyacinths most often fade in March. When this happens, you should remove wilted inflorescence. However, you should not break it – it is definitely better to use scissors or a small pruner. The shoot should be cut off just above the leaves. This is important because leaving it on would force the plant to use energy unnecessarily. Removing the inflorescence will ensure that the nutrients go straight to the bulb – thanks to which new ones will appear in the next season.
However, it is important not to remove the leaves, because the bulb obtains the necessary substances from them. Of course one the hyacinth can be moved to a less presentable place (but it should still have access to sunlight)and where it previously stood, put a new, flowering plant.
You also cannot forget about watering the hyacinth, although it requires less water now than during flowering. During this period, the bulb stores microelements needed for renewed growth. This stage usually lasts several weeks. Around May, the leaves begin to slowly dry out – this is a sign that you need to prepare for the next stage, i.e. securing the bulb.

After the hyacinth leaves dry, the bulb should be dried. Importantly, hyacinths are plants poisonous to pets. Therefore, when drying and storing the bulbs, they should be placed in a place inaccessible to four-legged pets (just like the flowers themselves). The preparation process is simple: remove the plant from the pot and remove excess soil. It is best to place the onion in a dry and airy place – it must not be kept in a closed plastic container. A much better option would be a plain cardboard box or paper bag. In such conditions, the bulb can safely wait for planting for several months.
At the beginning of autumn, it is worth planting it in the ground again. However Hyacinths do much better in garden beds than in homes. The natural temperature cycle prevailing outside favors their regeneration. In apartments, hyacinths may bloom less strongly, and sometimes they need even more than one season of rest. If you decide to replant it in a pot, you must take into account that the inflorescence may be less impressive. After a few seasons at home, it is definitely best to transplant the hyacinth into the garden – thanks to this, its beautiful flowers will decorate the flowerbeds for many more years.
