Opposition does not believe in impeachment of deputy who did blackface – 03/21/2026 – Panel

Deputies opposing the Tarcísio de Freitas government see (PL-SP).

at the Ethics Council for having painted her body with foundation for black skin in protest of the choice of (PSOL-SP) to preside over the Commission for the Defense of Women’s Rights in the Chamber of Deputies, on Wednesday (18).

The practice, known as blackface, is considered racist.

The fact that the majority of the 94 deputies today are conservative is one of the reasons for impunity, according to deputies Teonilio Barba and Donato, both from PT.

Another point, according to parliamentarians, is that Fabiana is considered a member of the lower clergy and that, because she operates discreetly, she does not have disaffection in the House, including within her base.

“I see it with skepticism. She commits a crime and there is already an understanding in the House that the parliamentarian has immunity from speaking. So, it’s okay to commit a crime”, said Paulo Fiorillo (PT).

The president of Alesp, André do Prado (PL), avoids talking about the issue externally, with the expectation of reducing the boil in the House. However, Prado has defended the freedom of expression that the deputy has in plenary.

Alesp stated in a note to the Panel that the Constitution supports the manifestation of deputies.

“The Constitution ensures that parliamentarians are inviolable, civilly and criminally, for their opinions, words and votes, especially when expressed in plenary. This is a guarantee designed to ensure the freedom necessary to fully exercise their mandate”, says the note.
