Palmeiras beat São Paulo this Saturday (21). In front of 50 thousand Tricolors, Alviverde triumphed 1-0 in a duel valid for the eighth round of the Brasileirão 2026. The winning goal for Palmeiras was scored by Jhon Arias, in the 5th minute of the game. The attacker received it on the wing, cut to the middle and hit Rafael’s right corner low.

With the result, Palmeiras reaches 19 points and isolates itself at the top of the Brasileirão. São Paulo is on 16 points, for now in second place, and is starting to see a decline after the arrival of Roger Machado.

The Tricolor board fired Hernan Crespo, even with the team leading the Brasileirão and undefeated in the competition, to bring Roger in with the speech that he would be able to lead the team to a title this year. However, practice has increasingly demonstrated – after uninspired defeats to Atlético-MG and Palmeiras – that he should not achieve this.

Roger Machado’s São Paulo demonstrated a poor offensive repertoire. Even with 63% possession of the ball, there were 41 crosses and few truly dangerous moves against the Palmeiras goal. The result also keeps the recent parish in the rivalry. Now there are six consecutive victories for Alviverdes against Tricolores. In the last 12 games, Palmeiras have won 8 times and drawn four. São Paulo’s last victory against its rival was in the distant 2023.

Both teams will now have the FIFA Data break ahead of them. São Paulo will play again on April 1st, away from home, against Internacional, at 7:30 pm. Palmeiras will face Grêmio at Arena Barueri the following day, at 9:30 pm.
