Measure aims to assist Transportation Security Administration (TSA) employees amid security funding impasses
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated in a publication on the Truth Social network that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents will be sent to airports from Monday (23), for assist employees da Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
In the message, Trump praised TSA agents for continuing to work despite the difficulties and harshly criticized the Democratic Party, accusing its leaders of prioritizing the protection of irregular immigrants and of block previously approved resources for the airport security.
The president also anticipated criticism of the measure, but demonstrated confidence in ICE’s performance, classifying the agency’s work as “fantastic” and highlighting that the operation will be led by Tom Homan, a former US immigration official and a leading figure in the stricter immigration policies adopted during the Trump administration.
The statement comes amid a political impasse over funding for the Department of Homeland Security, which has impacted the operation of airports and the pay of federal employees.
