Türkiye steps up diplomatic efforts to end war in Iran

Turkey is stepping up diplomatic efforts to end the war in Iran, with foreign minister Hakan Fidan making more than a dozen calls with regional and global counterparts in the past 48 hours, according to foreign ministry phone traffic reports.

On Sunday (22), Fidan held separate calls with his Iranian and Egyptian counterparts, as well as with US officials, where “measures aimed at ending the war were discussed”, a Turkish diplomatic source said.

Fidan also held calls yesterday with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, as well as Pakistani officials, in which they “assessed ongoing efforts to bring an end to the war.”

Telephone diplomacy continued today with calls to leaders in Egypt and Norway, where “discussions focused on efforts to end the war,” the source said.

I told him CNN that it would not comment on Ankara’s mediation efforts at this time.

People familiar with the talks say both Turkey and the United States have relayed messages between the parties as part of a broader effort to de-escalate rising tensions around key energy infrastructure and power facilities.
